Summary What are the MEs? Here some explanation:
Text
The Me
In the Sumerian literature are the descriptions of The Me, “the holy laws of heaven and earth.” In one particular tale, the goddess, Inanna, decides to obtain for her followers The Me from her maternal grandfather, Enki. She does this by getting him thoroughly drunk, and skirting off with the goods. Enki apparently tries to stop her, but fails. At the same time, however, there is the very real possibility that Enki had determined all along to give Inanna The Me, but went through the pretence in order to avoid the wrath of the other gods and godesses, i.e., the Anunnaki. Regardless of his true motive, however, The Me are worthy of mention.

They include:
kingship and priesthood
“the holy measuring rod and line”,
shepherdship, quiver, dagger and sword
loosening and binding of the hair
art of love making, art of prostitution, procreation
truth, the art of being forthright
slanderous and adorning speech
the art of song, resounding musical instruments
arts of power and treachery,
deceit, plundering of cities
lamentations and rejoicings of the heart
the art of kindness
crafts of the wood and copper worker
crafts of the scribe, builder and leather maker
perceptive ear, power of attention
holy purification rites
fear, dismay, consternation
kindling and putting out of fire
counseling, giving of judgments, making of decisions
“bitter-toothed lion”
assembled family
and
the making of beer!

For what else could any civilization worthy of the name ask? Obviously, the Sumerian way is based on doing what is right and good -- as opposed to what is allowed by law and/or society.

Summary Werneburg's TAZ-article

It's Just a God Doing the Job!

A sassy and imaginative combination of documentary film, conceptual art and social work:? Robert Bramkamp's film "The Boat God of the Lakeside Sports Club" opens today at the Brotfabrik
As God, you haven't got a chance in this country. As God, you are condemned to long-term unemployment. None of the pious Christian, Judaist or Muslim faiths need to even bother nodding their heads in agreement of this; as of yet, it has never been reported anywhere that their God has even once applied to a job-creation program. Enki, the 5,000-year-old Sumerian Bringer of Civilization, on the other hand, did just that. And he failed.
At the moment he is a freelance artist, which is what he probably was for the longest time. Whether or not he could get funding for an "I-Inc." program is not mentioned in Robert Bramkamp's documentary film about the Wendisch-Rietz Lakeside Sports Club, which is where Enki was active a summer long. The film ends with Enki trying to convince his employment office caseworker to extend his job-creation program position at the sports club – if not as a god, then at least as an actor playing god. That way, he could deal with the permitted cultural tasks as defined by location and simultaneously slip into the role of janitor, thus also getting the required work at the sports club done.
On the one side, the proper job, which generates taxes and social benefits for the state; on the other, the voluntary activities that have nothing to do with the job market – Robert Bramkamp has transferred this socio-political, volatile fiction into a aesthetic fiction: He has taken the actual, existing fulltime job at the Wendisch-Rietz Lakeside Sports Club (which, in turn, cannot afford to pay for it) and simply defined it as a godly issue. This brilliant maneuver changes his documentary film into a great film, a film both impudently political and extremely imaginative visually.
Enki, Sumerian God and totally normal, German job-creation program participant, has landed. Not in the chic Bad Saarow, but in an un-chic location. And there he wants to now distribute the mythical Me amongst the people – 100 of them, each one enabling a special ability. Me 33 permits the discovery of the correct house paint color. Each Me gets a yellow numbered sign and a location; this way Bramkamp can approach the facets of life and work at the club strictly documentarily while simultaneously but slowly labeling and serially numbering the entire landscape. Mundane jobs are staged as performance, and the commonplace documentary torques into a comedy. Picture postcards of the lake at sundown become intelligent conceptual art.
And here again Rober Bramkamp tests the limits of documentary film: Enki is really a role, and the actor Steffen "Schortie" Scheumann takes some risks in it. For he must help the laymen in their performances – the people at the club, from the lake and surrounding area – and they should not let themselves be distracted by Enki and his Godly, prophetic demeanor. It does not always work out like that, which sometimes takes its toll on Steffen Scheumann's act. Exactly that, however, brings the documentary aspect of the film back into play: The question of the maintenance and development of the lakeside sport club's social topography. On the Internet, the website www.enki100.net continues to promote and drive the pertinent artistic activities of the network project.

Summary "between localism and globalization"; Hoege's article helps English speakers a lot to get an idea about this website. Klick here.

This helps English speakers a lot to get an idea what this whole website is about.Translation of Helmut Hoege’s instructive perspective on the collective storytelling in Enki100net, taken from German newspaper “Die Tageszeitung”, April 11, 2006.
(A service of Me 54 – translation in the broadest sense)

Berliner Economy – Grounded and Taking Off!
by Helmut Höge

The director Robert Bramkamp and the artist Susanne Weirich have once again tackled the dilemma of the contradictions inherent between localism and globalization. This dilemma is more pressing than ever. It reveals itself foremost in the disintegration of the national economy and in the transnational evolution of business management while the state and nation, still chained to the territorial and having no other recourse but to also act in the style of business management; thus they sell off the "family heirlooms" (the infrastructure) on the one hand and, on the other, conduct absurd "locational policies" all the way down to the regions and communities.
One socialization dilemma remains to be questioned: How can one immobilize (anchor) oneself and simultaneously experience the world (internationalism)? For Bramkamp/Weirich, the answer to this question initially began with a small excursion through the countryside. On one such excursion, halfway to Frankfurt Oder they stumbled upon a lake where poets and intellectuals—such as Maxim Gorky, for example—used to like to take their vacations. Nowadays the nouvelle rich of Berlin have transplanted themselves there, at the Scharmützel Lake close to Bad Saarow, along with golf and tennis courses as well as clubs and private lofts.
But at the end of the lake, in the direction of the Small and Great Glubig Lake, there is still—as described by the Federal Foundation for Culture—the old "socialist microcosm 'Wendisch-Rietz Lakeside Sports Club'" where one can still make one's sailing license using the double-mast, still-not-officially-recognized GDR cutters. And this is what the two Berliner freelancers did. Thus the two anchored themselves there, at least in their free time. But then, financed by Arte and others, they showed up with an entire film team and filmed the club—which is already almost suffering the throes of death—and those active there, creating a docu-fiction whose central idea is now being propagated in the Internet.
In the film, the actor Schortie Scheumann plays Enki, the Sumerian god of creation, who has more or less been projected into the Scharmützel Lake topography and is also working at the club as a participant of a work provision program. In encyclopedias Enki is listed as one of the half-anthropomorphic "chthonian gods of the underworld" whose abdomen tapers off into a boat. He is considered a "bringer of civilization," and it is also said of him that "All the different aspects of the individual city gods employed by him are united in Enki himself."
What this specifically means for Scharmützel Lake is that he is allotting a growing numbers of "me" there and, in turn, when in operation, they express themselves as specific "capabilities" which can be communicated via the Internet (among other ways).
As a whole, a "narrative project" is being dealt with here—and with that, actually, art. In contrast, for example, to many Internet concepts at the Transmediale Festival—where Bramkamp's work was also introduced—this project is primarily grounded (anchored) and does not need to struggle through its commoditization to get recognition and/or "clicks".
For the premiere of the film The Boat God of the Lakeside Sports Club in Duisburg, a shuttle service was supplied by the club. In the Internet, the project is now expanding itself to include other "localisms" such as the Scharmützel Lake fishermen, the local Honda dealer who services the boat motors of the club, as well as the Neuzelle brewery Klosterbrauerei (which has named a beer brand after the "Grand Ameliorant" Enki).
On the other hand, since the project is also about "as many different narrative perspectives as possible" (as Robert Bramkamp says), a growing number of "internationalisms" are also coming into play: Archeologists specializing on the Mesopotamia, for example, as well as various art groups. The project "Enki100.Net" is unlimited in how far it can rise, but when looking down it focuses on the virtual powers that contribute to the preservation and expansion of the social topography of the Lakeside Sports Club Association. This spans from sponsoring (Klosterbrauerei) to "the best table of books" (b-books), from the individual memberships to the water analysis of a limnological institute, and onwards to the shared battle against the Röhrichtschutzgesetz (Reeds Protection Act).
All these network participants appear as me in the Internet and are listed by number; the identification numbers, in turn, can be found again in the swamps and reeds of Scharmützel Lake, where they are more or less located around the club house. In one way the club thus regains its connection to the world it apparently lost following the end of the GDR, and in another way, the world (or that which claims to be it) is more or less grounded at Scharmützel Lake. And thus should be avoided, that which the Bavarian filmmaker Herbert Achternbusch once complained about: "There where Weilheim and Passau once were, is now world… The world has destroyed those places." In Berlin, one stumbles upon such black holes every other step—places liquidated by the world, as well as those that have sunk into oblivion due to absent or disappearing links to the world. "World class" is a question of capital expenditure (either as a shy deer or as a voracious locust); in the narrative project Lakeside Sports Club of Scharmützel Lake, in contrast to the Recreation Center Bad Saarow, symbolic capital comes into play most of all. The participants are optimistic.

Summary authorstatement on the film
Text
"This film looks a lot different than the film which we had expected would change our lives."

Following the fall of the Wall in Germany, Jörg and Hanne Wenke founded the Lakeside Sports Club in Wendisch-Rietz. The club, which is in continual financial danger, is one of the few places in that region of Brandenburg with any social energy and appeal. More so than money, what the club really lacks are the helping hands of adults.

The job-creation program participant Steffen Enkert—the reincarnation of Enki, the Sumerian God of Boats—discovers that for numerous reasons the club corresponds to the ancient and unique "Land of Reeds" from whence the Sumerian civilization originated. With improvement in mind, he once again goes through the mythology of Enki and the World Order. Within a cinematic microcosm in which Lake Scharmützel (Berlin) geographically merges with the Mesopotamia of antiquity, Enki, as a divinity, presides over and expands the work forms by promising humanity 100 new ME: One hundred new abilities to do, recognize or be something. He co-operates with local partners who, when testing of their abilities, are advised and assisted by an international, ever-expanding network.

The Boat God of the Lakeside Sports Club (The 100 >ME<), which utilizes a hybrid of documentary and filmic forms to create a film and Internet-based narrative project featuring 100 authorized positions regarding future work forms, is, according to Enki, "the ideal form for the dissemination of the 100 Me". The network consists of people, firms, and institutions which seldom intersect in normal day-to-day life. The rediscovery and retesting of the Me bases itself and builds upon the varied abilities and professions within the network, and can thus achieve a great complexity. Within the network, all forms of reciprocal influence are possible, with medial and practical forms connecting at varied terrains and timbres in an open process. The only thing predefined and fixed is the arena in which abilities of the Me Partners are to be depicted and described. Each new Me must help, be it directly or indirectly, to improve the framework conditions of the club,

Part 1 of the 100 Me is a film: "The Boat God of the Lakeside Sports Club", a docu fictional blend narrating the creation of the Internet-based network "Enki100.net". The film is a tale of collective continual narration in which reality changes alongside and with the story.

Summary Basic Info on this Web Story Telling Project
Text
1.
First, how it started.
Long before the Old Testament in the Bible an actual myth existed: in Mesopotamia the Gods reached down from Heaven and created man. Enki endowed man with the mysterious 100 Me. At that time, just like nowadays, there came into existence a civilisation.

2. Second, the 100 Me.
They are mysterious abilities or powers. They originate from the Gods. Every Me needs its own location. At these locations Enki places his Me-partners and bestows onto each of them one of the 100 Me.

3. Third, the Me-partner.
The Me-partners used to be thought of as regional gods??? and before that as the sons and daughters of Enki. Nowadays individuals, groups or even companies can become Me-partners. They prove their Me by their actions. The Me can become effective anywhere and to anybody.

4. Fourth, the double map.
Enki laid a map of the Persian Gulf and a map of the Märkischen Meer - a region of lakes between the river Oder and river Spree in Brandenburg, near Berlin – on top of each other, merging together the two maps. The one map shows the old locations of the Me: towns, canals, and the banks of the Euphrates and the Tigris. The other shows where the Me are located nowadays.

5. Fifth, how the website works.
100 local Me-partner use photos, sound, film and writing to tell of the their experiences in fulfilling their Me abilities. They confer with an international network. Everyone can keep up to date with their experiences and interact with the 100 Me-partners online.

6. Sixth, how to participate.
On the double map of the two regions merged together each Me has a number which can be clicked on. All information regarding this Me, including contact details, is displayed. You can observe, go to the location, participate, collectively tell stories or even try to convince Enki to enpower you with your own Me.

7. Seventh,
hello you English speaking world beyond the Märkischen Meer and the Gulf. The reinstitution and unfolding of the 100 Me is an international undertaking. We need your support. Summary Duisburg Filmweek press release on the film The Boat God of the Lakeside Sports Club (The 100 Me, Part 1)
Text
A Change of Perspectives
Interdisciplinary viewpoints, audacious associations, and energizing impulses – daring to look beyond accepted boundaries. At the Lakeside Sports Club, the job-creation program participant is king: He is no less than Enki. According to Sumerian mythology, Enki created humanity, brought culture to civilization, and was the God of Seafarers. Everything would work out fine and lead to enlightenment if only the job-creation program were not ending. Robert Bramkamp's film The Boat God of the Lakeside Sports Club (The 100 Me, Part 1) (Germany, 2005, 81 min, World premiere) magically and playfully combines the Sumerian belief of the 100 Me – the 100 special capabilities which individually can only take effect at specific locations when deployed by a specific person – with the truly unique mini-cosmos of the Lakeside Sports Club. In doing so, he also reveals the connection between the Persian Gulf with the region of the Märkischen Lakes.
The theory of cognition, here and now – and an appeal for an extension of Enki's sponsored job-creation program position.
